Encore will utilize an electric-pump fed engine cycle. Rocket engines generally grow more powerful and more efficient as main chamber pressure rises. There are two primary ways to increase chamber pressure:

1. Increase propellant storage pressure.

2. Using mechanical pumps to boost pressure far above the tanks.

Increasing tank pressure comes at the cost of increasing tank wall thickness, and thus rocket mass, due to higher stresses.

Mechanical pumps are the most mass-efficient way to boost pressure. They can be powered by various means such as electric motors and gas turbines.
